The key factor is research and knowing your market
Excellent advice, probably the best thing any burgeoning author can hear and take to heart.

Really cool to hear about the experience with AuthorHouse, particularly from the value point of view. I have a friend who goes through them and her books look great--and when she put out the last one and had an issue with the cover quality, they made it right. So yeah, good to hear more!

Like that cover, by the way.

A really perfect rundown of the whys and why nots of e-publishing. It's great to think all these books that would've been passed up by traditional publishing, niche books that people can really get excited about, can now find a home where they're appreciated, promoted, and directed to the right audience.

An excellent post. I share Mr. Tolan's enthsiasm for e-publishing. Technology has opened up another world for authors who as he says are part of, 'that big bucket of good writers trying to pour into a small thimble of NY publishers." Terrific insight and very good advise.

Epublishing is a very exciting field to be in now for lots of reasons, one being turn around times are pretty quick from a few months to at the most usually a year. One of my favorite things is how there is the option of publishing shorter length pieces, stories which get to the gist of a story without alot of clutter you see in inflated NY books. These novellas make for cleaner and easier reading for many, expanding the literary world to a whole new market not seen before. Not to mention, epublishers are opening the doors to subjects and story lines considered outside the box. All I can is WOOO! And like Mr Tolan said, Champagne Books is a great please to be for they also gave me my first contract which in turn infused me with the confidence and elation of knowing, yes I am a writer!
LOL and even better I get to share space with gifted author's like Mr Tolan. ;)

Well expressed and I'm glad you explained that self publishing is very labor intense and comes with a dead end in most cases. Congratulations on an ecellent interview.

Ooh I love this one-- so excited to see it up! RE is just great.

Also, gave you a blog award thing, a Cate Gardner strange woman award. I am bound by law to tell you!

Sara-Jayne's not my only Lyrical author for the interviews. It sounds like a really cool little press, and definitely somewhere dangeours to my bank balance. How creepy is that cover?
